Fields are the interactive spots you place on a document — where a recipient signs, initials, dates, types, or checks a box. In the CornerSpot envelope builder, you add fields by dragging them from the palette onto the page, then fine-tune each one in the field inspector. This guide shows you how.
Fields can only be added or edited while the envelope is in Draft. You'll also need at least one document attached and at least one recipient added — the field palette unlocks once a recipient exists.
How to place and configure fields in CornerSpot
1. Open the envelope builder
Open a draft envelope to land in the builder. The left rail holds the Fields palette and your recipients; the center shows your document; and the right rail has the subject, status, and actions.

2. Choose who the fields belong to
At the top of the Fields palette, use Assign new fields to to pick the recipient that every field you place next will belong to. Each recipient gets their own color so you can tell at a glance who owns each field. Switch this selector whenever you move on to placing another person's fields.

3. Drag a field onto the document
Drag a field type from the palette onto the page where you want it. You can place a Signature, Initials, Text, Date, or Checkbox field. Drop it roughly where it belongs — you can nudge it into place afterward.

4. Add the other fields you need
Repeat for every field this recipient needs to complete. Drop a Date field where they'll date the document, a Text field for free-form input, and so on. Each placed field shows the assigned recipient's initials.

5. Move and resize a field
Hover a placed field to reveal its resize handles — drag a handle to change its size, or drag the field body to reposition it. Click a field once to open its settings.

6. Configure the field in the inspector
Clicking a field opens the field inspector on the right. From here you can:
- Recipient: change which recipient the field belongs to.
- Required: toggle whether the recipient must complete it before finishing.
- Label (shown to signer): rename the field so it's clear what to enter.
- Default value (text fields): pre-fill a starting value the signer can change.
- Type style: set the font, size, and color used to render the value on the signed document.
To remove a field, open its inspector and click Delete field.

7. Keep editing while it's in Draft
Add, move, resize, and reconfigure fields as much as you like — everything stays editable while the envelope is in Draft. Once you send it for signature, the fields lock so recipients always see exactly what you set up.

Tips
- Set Assign new fields to before dragging, so each field lands on the right person from the start.
- Use clear labels on text fields — they tell the signer exactly what to enter.
- For a date the system fills in automatically, place a Date field and turn on auto-stamp in the inspector (covered in its own guide).
- To pre-fill details you already have, use the Recipient info auto-fill fields below the palette.
