How to set up tax rates in CornerSpot

A tax rate is a reusable percentage — like a sales tax or VAT — that you define once and then apply across your invoices and subscriptions. Cornerspot keeps all your rates in one library, so you set up a rate a single time and reach for it everywhere you bill. This guide shows you how to create a tax rate from the Tax Rates settings and how to manage your rates afterwards.

How to create a tax rate in Cornerspot

You set up tax rates from the Tax Rates page in your settings. Here's the quickest path, start to finish.

1. Open the Tax Rates page

From your Account Settings, open the Taxes & Discounts tile (at /dashboard/settings/taxes-discounts), then choose Tax Rates (at /dashboard/settings/tax-rates), described as "Manage tax rates for invoices and subscriptions." Every rate lives here, with a New Tax Rate button in the top-right corner.

2. Click “New Tax Rate”

Select New Tax Rate to open the panel. It slides in from the right so you never lose your place in the list.

3. Enter a name

Give your tax rate a clear Name that tells you what it is at a glance — for example "CA Sales Tax" or "UK VAT". The name is required.

4. Set the rate

Enter the Rate (%) as a percentage between 0 and 100. This is the percentage Cornerspot applies wherever the rate is used.

5. Add a region and description

Two optional fields help you keep a growing library tidy:

  • Region — The country, state, or region this rate applies to. You can filter your rates by region later, which is handy once you have several.
  • Description — A short note that explains when to reach for this rate.

The Active toggle is on by default, which keeps the rate available to apply. Turn it off to retire a rate without deleting it.

6. Create the tax rate

When everything looks right, click Create Tax Rate. Cornerspot saves it and the new rate appears in your list right away.

7. Your tax rate is ready

The new rate shows in your list with its Rate, Region, and an Active or Inactive status. It's now part of the same tax-rate library you use throughout your billing flows — ready to apply to invoices and subscriptions.

Managing your tax rates

The Tax Rates page gives you everything you need to keep your library in order:

  • Search — Use the search box to find a rate by name, description, or region.
  • Filter — Narrow the list by status (Active or Inactive) and by region; active filters show as removable chips with a "Clear all" option.
  • Edit — Use the pencil action on a row to reopen the panel and update a rate's name, percentage, region, description, or status.
  • Delete — Use the trash action to remove a rate you no longer need. Deleted rates go to Trash, where they can be restored for 30 days.

Tips for setting up tax rates

  • Name rates so they're easy to recognise at billing time — include the region or tax type in the name.
  • Fill in the Region field once you have more than a couple of rates; it makes filtering far quicker.
  • Prefer turning a rate Inactive over deleting it when you might need it again — inactive rates step out of the way but stay in your library.
  • Set rates up once: the same library powers tax on both your invoices and your subscriptions.
