How to add a custom field to a form in CornerSpot

Standard fields cover the built-in contact details — first name, email, phone, and so on. But sometimes you need to ask your own question, like "Company size" or "How did you hear about us?". That's what a custom field is for. This guide shows how to add one from your form's Builder, choose the right data type, and decide whether the answer is saved onto each contact's profile.

How to add a custom field to a form in Cornerspot

You add fields from a form's Builder, on the form detail page. Here's the full path, start to finish.

1. Open the Builder and click "+ Add Field"

From your form's detail page, the left-hand Builder lists every field on the form. Click + Add Field to open the field picker.

2. Switch to the "Custom Field" tab

The drawer opens on the Standard Fields tab — those are built-in contact fields. To create your own question, switch to the Custom Field tab.

3. Enter a Label and Field Key

Type a Label — the question your visitors see (for example "Company Size"). The Field Key fills in automatically as a lowercase, underscored version (like company_size); it's used for data mapping, and you can edit it if you need to.

4. Choose a Data Type

Pick the Data Type that matches the answer you're collecting. The full list is: Text, Text Area, Number, Currency, Date, Date & Time, Yes / No, Single Select, Multi Select, URL, Email, and Phone.

5. For a dropdown, add the choices

When you pick Single Select or Multi Select, an options editor appears. Add each choice with a Label (what visitors see) — use Add option for more, and drag to reorder. A select field needs at least one option before it can be added.

6. Decide whether to save it to contacts

The Make this a Contact field toggle controls where the answer is stored. Turn it on and the response is saved to each contact's profile as a custom field, so it appears on their contact record. Leave it off and the answer is kept with this form's submissions only. There's also a Required field toggle to make the question mandatory.

7. Click "Add Custom Field"

When everything looks right, click Add Custom Field. The new field is added to the form, and you'll see it both in the Builder and in the Live Preview on the right, exactly as visitors will.

Standard vs. custom fields

  • Standard fields map to built-in contact attributes (First name, Last name, Email, Phone, Job Title) and always update the contact record.
  • Custom fields are your own questions. With Make this a Contact field on, the answer is saved to the contact's profile; with it off, it stays with the submission.

Tips

  • Pick the data type that best fits the answer — a select for a fixed set of choices, a number for quantities, a date for scheduling — so answers stay clean.
  • Keep the Field Key stable once you start collecting data; it's how answers are stored and mapped.
  • Use the Advanced section to set a default value when it speeds up completion for a common answer.
