How to issue a refund on a payment in CornerSpot

Sometimes you need to return money to a customer — a cancelled engagement, a duplicate charge, or a service that wasn't delivered. In Cornerspot you issue a refund against a payment you've already collected, right from the invoice's detail page. This guide shows you how to issue a full refund and what happens to the invoice afterwards.

How to issue a refund on a payment in Cornerspot

Refunds are issued against a recorded payment, so you start from a paid invoice's detail page. You can open the Issue refund dialog from the invoice header, from the Advanced section, or — the way we'll use here — from the refund icon next to the payment in the Payments card.

1. Open the paid invoice

From the Invoices list (under Members & Billing), open the invoice with the payment you want to refund. At the top you'll see its status and amount.

2. Click the refund icon on the payment

Scroll to the Payments card, find the payment you're returning, and click its refund icon. The Issue refund dialog opens, showing which payment is being refunded and the Remaining refundable amount.

3. Set the refund amount

The Amount field defaults to a full refund of the remaining refundable amount. Leave it as-is for a full refund, or lower it for a partial one (you can issue more than one partial refund until the full amount is returned). The field caps at the maximum and hints “Max {amount}. Leave at this value for a full refund.”

4. Add a reason (optional)

Add an optional Reason — it's recorded on the credit note for your records, so a clear note here helps later when you're reconciling your books.

5. Issue the refund

When everything looks right, click Issue refund. Cornerspot issues a credit note and re-syncs the invoice balance. For Stripe-backed payments, funds are returned to the customer's original payment method (typically 5–10 business days); for manual payments, the refund is recorded for your accounting.

6. Review the result

The refund now appears in the Payments card as a Refund · {credit note} sub-row beneath the original payment, and the invoice's Refunded and Collected totals update. Because we issued a full refund, the invoice's balance re-syncs and it reopens for payment. You can download the credit note as a PDF from the refund row.

Refunds vs. voiding

A refund returns money for a payment you've already collected. If you instead need to cancel a finalized invoice that should no longer be collected, you'd void it; to write off an overdue invoice you no longer expect to collect, you'd mark it uncollectible. Use a refund whenever money has actually changed hands and needs to go back.

Good to know

  • You can only refund up to the remaining refundable amount on a payment.
  • Each refund generates its own credit note, and you can issue more than one partial refund until the full amount is returned.
  • For Stripe-backed payments, funds are returned to the original payment method automatically (5–10 business days); refunds on manual payments are recorded for your books.
  • The customer can find their refunds and credit notes on the Receipts page in the member portal.
