Every Cornerspot team has exactly one owner — the person who holds ultimate control. If you're stepping back, handing off a client account, or moving the team to a co-founder, you can pass the title to another admin with Transfer ownership. This guide walks through the whole handover, start to finish.
Before you transfer ownership
Only the current owner can transfer ownership, and the person receiving it must already be an active admin on the team. If the Transfer ownership action isn't showing, one of these is why:
- The recipient must be an admin. If the person you have in mind isn't an admin yet, open their panel, change their Role to Admin, and click Save changes first.
- They must be active. You can't transfer to someone who is suspended, revoked, or whose invitation is still pending. Invite them, wait for them to accept, then transfer.
- It can't be you. The action only appears on another teammate's panel, never on your own row.
- You must be the owner. Other admins don't see the action at all.
This is also why ownership has its own dedicated action rather than being a role change. Open your own row and you'll see your Role field is locked, with the hint “The team owner cannot be demoted. Transfer ownership first.” You can't demote yourself out of ownership. Transferring is how the title moves.
How to transfer team ownership
1. Open the Team Members page
From your Account Settings, open the Team Members tile (at /dashboard/settings/team-members). This lists everyone on your team, with each person's role and status.

The current owner is marked with a crown beside their name. Only that person can transfer the team.

2. Open the admin you want to make owner
Click the row of the active admin you'd like to promote. Their detail panel slides in from the right, showing their role, their status, and the actions available to you. Check that it reads Admin and Active — those two things are what make the transfer possible.

3. Click “Transfer ownership” under Manage access
Scroll down the panel to the Manage access section and click Transfer ownership, described as “Make this admin the team owner. You become a regular admin.”

4. Confirm the handover
A dialog titled “Transfer team ownership?” spells out exactly what will happen: “Transfer ownership of this team to {name}? They will become owner and you will become a regular admin.” Click Transfer ownership to go ahead, or Cancel to back out. Nothing changes until you confirm.

5. The crown moves
The list refreshes, and the crown now sits beside the new owner's name. You remain on the team as a regular admin with full admin access.

What changes after a transfer
- The crown moves. The new owner is marked with the crown in the Team Members list and on their detail panel.
- You stay an admin. Your role doesn't change. You can still invite teammates, change roles, and manage billing — you simply no longer hold the owner title.
- Owner-only powers move with the title. Only the owner can transfer ownership, and only the owner is protected from being suspended or removed. Going forward, both of those belong to the new owner.
- The new owner's role is now locked. Their Role field shows the same “cannot be demoted” hint yours used to.
Tips for transferring ownership
- Promote the recipient to Admin and confirm they're Active before you start, so the action is there when you look for it.
- Transfer ownership when a founder hands off the account, or when responsibility for the team genuinely moves to someone else. It isn't needed just to share admin duties — several people can be admins at once.
- Your team always keeps at least one active admin, so you can't accidentally strand it by transferring.
- If you change your mind, the new owner can transfer the team straight back to you the same way.
