An account status is the label you put on a company to show where it stands — prospect, customer, at-risk, and so on. Cornerspot ships with a starter set, and you can add your own from the Account Statuses settings so the labels match how your team works. This guide shows you how to create a custom account status and manage the rest of your list.
How to create an account status in Cornerspot
You manage account statuses from the Account Statuses page in your settings. Here's the quickest path, start to finish.
1. Open the Account Statuses page
From your Account Settings, open the Account Statuses tile (at /dashboard/settings/account-statuses). Every status lives here, with a New Status button in the top-right corner.

2. Click “New Status”
Select New Status to open the panel. It slides in from the right so you never lose your place in the list.

3. Enter a name
Give your status a clear Name that describes the state it represents — for example "At-Risk", "Customer", or "Churned". The name is required and must be unique within your team.

4. Pick a color and add a description
Choose a Color so the status stands out at a glance — the preview chip at the top of the panel updates as you go. You can type a hex value or use the color picker. Add an optional Description to help teammates pick the right status; it shows in the picker dropdown.

5. Set the Default and Active toggles
Two toggles control how the status behaves:
- Default — The default status is assigned to accounts created without an explicit status. Only one status can be the default at a time, so turning this on moves the default off whichever status had it.
- Active — Active statuses appear in pickers. Inactive ones are hidden from pickers but keep rendering on historical records, so you can retire a status without losing its history.

6. Create the status
When everything looks right, click Create status. Cornerspot saves it and the new status appears in your list right away, ready to apply to your accounts.

The new status shows as a row in the list with its color chip, a Custom badge, and its Default and Active state.

Organizing your status list
The list view gives you a few ways to keep your statuses tidy:
- Reorder by dragging — Drag the handle on the left of a row to change the order statuses appear in pickers. Dragging is available when the list is sorted by position (ascending) with no active filters.
- Filter the list — Filter by source (Seeded from defaults or Custom), by active state, and by default, or search by name to find a status fast.
- Edit or delete — Use the pencil to reopen a status, or the trash icon to remove one. The default status can't be deleted until you set another status as the default first.
Tips for account statuses
- Keep your status set short and meaningful — a handful of clear labels beats a long list nobody agrees on.
- Prefer marking a status inactive over deleting it when you might want it back — inactive statuses keep rendering on historical records and stay out of new pickers.
- Set one status as the Default so new accounts always start in a known state.
