Contact statuses are the lifecycle states you apply to the people in your CRM — labels like New, Needs Follow-up, or Customer that tell your team where each contact stands. CornerSpot ships with a starter set, and you can add your own to match how your team works. This guide shows you how to create a contact status from your settings.
How to customize your contact statuses in CornerSpot
You manage contact statuses from the Contact Statuses page in your settings. Here's the quickest path, start to finish.
1. Open the Contact Statuses page
From your Account Settings, open Contact Statuses (at /dashboard/settings/contact-statuses). This lists every status your team uses, marked Seeded (provided by CornerSpot) or Custom, with a New Status button in the top-right corner.

2. Click “New Status”
Select New Status to open the panel. It slides in from the right so you never lose your place in the list.

3. Name the status
Enter a clear, descriptive Name — this is what teammates will see in status pickers and on records. The name is required and must be unique within your team.

4. Pick a color
Choose a Color so the status stands out at a glance. You can type a hex value such as #f59e0b or use the swatch, and the Preview chip at the top of the panel updates live as you go.

5. Add an optional description
Use the optional Description to explain when the status should be used. It’s shown to teammates in the picker dropdown, which helps everyone apply statuses consistently.

6. Create the status
When everything looks right, click Create status. Your new status appears in the list right away with a Custom badge, ready to apply to contacts.

How contact statuses behave
- Default status: Use the Default toggle to mark one status as the default. Contacts created without an explicit status are assigned the default automatically.
- Active vs. inactive: Turn Active off to retire a status. Inactive statuses are hidden from pickers but keep rendering on historical records, so past data stays intact.
- You can’t delete the default: The default status is the fallback every contact reassigns to, so it can’t be deleted until you set another status as the default.
- Reorder by position: Drag statuses to reorder them when the list is sorted by position with no active filters; lower positions appear first in pickers.
Tips for contact statuses
- Keep your status list short and meaningful — a handful of clear stages is easier for the team to use than a long list.
- Add a description to any status whose meaning isn’t obvious, so everyone applies it the same way.
- Prefer making a status inactive over deleting it if you might want it back — historical records keep showing it either way.
